In December 2015, SPIREA has completed a new dena-RES-Project at the Montevideo campus of the Faculty of Engineering (FING), University of the Republic (UdelaR), Uruguay. A grid-connected solar photovoltaic system of 2,080 Wp DC capacity was installed at a flat roof on the campus building.
The system deploys state-of-the-art solar technologies, generates clean electricity for the campus and meanwhile serves as a pilot station for the renewable energy teaching programs of the Faculty. The system was officially inaugurated on the 2015 December 10th with participation of high-ranking guests from education, industry and policy making.
In cooperation with the project partners, SPIREA will hold a series of seminars and networking events in Montevideo, to elaborate benefits and potential of solar energy in Uruguay, as well as demonstrate cutting-edge solar technologies Made-in-Germany.
The dena RES Project Uruguay is part of the worldwide dena Renewable Energy Solutions Programme coordinated by Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency – and co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) within the „renewables – Made in Germany“ initiative.

The project “Sunny Campus FING” is realized under joint efforts by dedicated partners from Germany and Uruguay.
The “renewables – Made in Germany” brand represents innovative, practical and efficient technologies and services which use renewable energy sources in a variety of ways, ranging from rural electrification to industrial-scale power stations. “renewables – Made in Germany” also contribute significantly to climate protection promoting the worldwide acceptance and use of renewable energies. It is the official aim of the German government to make a significant contribution to international climate protection. Therefore, the government has been actively supporting the world-wide dissemination of cutting-edge German renewable energy technology and know-how since 2002. The transfer of renewable energy expertise, the promotion of foreign trade and the facilitation of international development cooperation are part of the initiative.
The dena RES Programme was developed by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency. This programme, co-financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy within the “renewables – Made in Germany” initiative, supports renewable energy companies entering new markets. Within the framework of the programme reference and demonstration projects are installed nearby designated institutions in different countries around the world. The installation is accompanied by comprehensive marketing and training programmes. These projects impressively present high-quality renewable energy technology.
The Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency – is Germany’s centre of expertise for energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and intelligent energy systems. dena’s aim is to ensure that energy is used in both a national and international context as efficiently, safely and economically as possible with the least possible impact on climate. dena is working with stakeholders from the worlds of politics and business and from society at large to achieve this aim. Shareholders in dena are the Federal Republic of Germany, KfW Bankengruppe, Allianz SE, Deutsche Bank AG and DZ BANK AG.
Spirea Advisors is an independent cleantech consultant based in Berlin, Germany. The young boutique focuses on facilitating cleantech investment and cooperation around the globe. Since its establishment in 2011, Spirea has completed various successful projects across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Spirea is the key implementation partner of the solar PV system at FING under the dena-RES-Project 2014/2015, and is positioned to play an active role in the Uruguayan cleantech market.
The University of the Republic (Spanish: Universidad de la República / UdelaR) is Uruguay’s public university. It is the most important, oldest, and largest university of the country, with a student body of 108,886 students (2012). It was founded on July 18, 1849 in Montevideo, where most of its buildings and facilities are still located.
The project is hosted by the Faculty of Engineering (FING) of UdelaR at its Montevideo campus.
Academia Uruguay is an international language school dedicated to teaching Spanish as a foreign language in Montevideo, Capital of Uruguay. The school also actively acts a platform for various inter-culture projects between Uruguay and the world. Academia Uruguay is strategic partner of Spirea in Latin America and acted as key local coordinator of the project.
ERGO is a Company founded and managed by specialists in energy efficiency and renewable energies. In this field, ERGO is specialized in turnkey photovoltaic projects and assessing clients in electricity generation projects of all kinds.
